California is Officially Reopening!

California is reopening today after 15 months of emergency regulations and unprecedented lockdown requirements prompted by the Covid-19 pandemic. While the reopening comes with much relief, and politicians hail the reopening as an opportunity for an economic rebound, many of those responsible for an economic recovery face the re-opening with mixed feelings of joy and apprehension.

Could You Pass the SALT (Reform)?

One surprise when President Joe Biden presented his budget last week was something that was not included in the budget. There was no mention of increasing federal tax deductibility for state and local taxes (known as SALT). The last administration and Congress fixed the total deductibility of property taxes and income or sales taxes at $10,000. While the press often states that only the rich take advantage of higher deductibility provisions, many small business owners are caught in the trap of low SALT caps.
